Investment drives innovation across BCA supply chain operations

Investment drives innovation across BCA supply chain operations.

New investment by BCA in its automotive and supply chain operations has expanded capacity and triggered a number of innovations.

The BCA Automotive finished vehicle carrier fleet now exceeds 730 vehicles and investment in technology will see telematics rolled out across the business to drive efficiency.

Nigel Glenn, managing director of BCA Automotive, said: "BCA has undertaken a strategic review of the long-term trends in the sector and invested in both people and vehicles to ensure it is well placed to support the industry going forward.

"While the supply of transporter equipment requires long lead times we have mapped our strategy regarding investment and ordered vehicles in line with trends to ensure a flow of new transporters into the business."

BCA handles more than two million vehicle movements a year and has invested in new technology to drive efficiency through the process.

Glenn said: "As we continue to provide end-to-end solutions for our customers, BCA Automotive will play an important part of driving change to bring efficiency throughout the supply chain."

Following a successful trial at its site in Immingham, BCA is also introducing RFID technology at key operational centres across the UK. The company believes it will see significant cost savings and service-enhancing benefits at all touch-points through the vehicle's lifecycle.

The company says where a stock check of 20,000 vehicles would have taken a team of 20 people an entire weekend it can now complete the task at the push of a button. The system has also enhanced stock control, compound management and created a data-rich environment.

BCA has expanded its IT and development teams to launch advanced valuation, inspection, imaging and data tools.

The recent acquisition of Paragon Automotive, the outsourced vehicle services group, enhanced capacity across BCA and expanded the range of services it offers customers along the lifecycle of a vehicle.
