Rebecca Scott, 25, was banned from driving after moving her car when she was more than twice the legal alcohol limit
A nurse has been banned from the roads after she tried to move her car to a quieter street to sleep in when her handbag was stolen on a night out.
Rebecca Scott, 25, was nearly two-and-a-half times the legal alcohol limit when she drove her Corsa from her driveway to a nearby street after finding herself locked out.
The mental health nurse said she lost her house keys, phone and other items after her bag was stolen when she was out for her sister's 18th birthday.
It was recovered later that evening, with only her car keys.
Not able to wake her mother when she got home at 5am, she got in the leased Corsa and tried to drive to a quieter street so that she wouldn't be woken by passing cars.
Scott, who works at Prestwich Hospital, near Manchester, hit a wall and was spotted by a police patrol.
She was breathalysed after the incident on April 23, with tests showing she was over twice the drink drive limit.
At Manchester Magistrates' Court, Scott, from Heywood wept as she admitted drink driving and was disqualified for 17 months and fined £380.
Prosecutor Lynn Roger said: 'She said she was locked out of her house so she got in her car and turned the engine on to keep warm and the car had moved and hit a wall outside her house.
Prestwich Hospital, where Scott works as a mental health nurse, and through which she leased the car she drove into a wall when she was over the limit
'She said "I think I have hit the wall". There was damage to the front bumper of the vehicle which corresponds with hitting the wall. She was breath tested at the road side and tested positive. She was taken to Bury Police Station where she cooperated fully.'
Tests showed Scott had 83 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 milililtres of blood. The legal limit is 35mg.
In mitigation, defence lawyer Peter Grogan said: 'It was her sister's 18th birthday the night before and she had been out cele brating and drinking with no intention of driving.
'They were celebrating in a bar in Rochdale. When she was there her handbag was stolen and was later recovered in the gentleman's toilets with only her car keys still in them.
'Everything else including her house keys were stolen. She tried to get into her home by knocking on the door but because she didn't have her phone she was unable to call her mother who was inside the house, but didn't hear her knock.
'Her vehicle was parked on the driveway of her home so she decided to sleep in the vehicle. Her road is a busy one and she didn't want to sleep in the vehicle on a busy road so decided to move it 100 metres.'
Mr Grogan explained she was fully cooperative with police and used to drive to work in the car which was leased through her profession.
Scott was also ordered to pay £120 in costs and surcharges.
JP Julie Lockley told her: 'We have seen that you are clearly remorseful.'
